AZ Alkmaar midfielder Teun Koopmeiners confirms talks to join Roma ‘are going the right direction,’ but the Dutch club deny negotiations are at an advanced stage.

The 23-year-old has emerged as José Mourinho’s priority at the Stadio Olimpico and according to several reports in Italy, his price tag is in the region of €20m.

“I am ready to leave. Talks with the Giallorossi are going in the right direction,” Koopmeiners told NOS.

“This won’t distract me from the Euros, I’m getting everything out in the open, even with the media.

“Everything must be perfect for me: the country, the city, the language, the coach and the possibilities for my girlfriend,” he added.

However, AZ director Max Huiberts, insists there are no developments in the negotiations: “I know one club is interested, but that was three months ago,” he said according to Calciomercato.com.

“That’s why I am a bit surprised Koopmeiners spoke about that so openly. Three parties must agree on a transfer.

“It’s not true that if a player has a good conversation with a club, a transfer automatically happens.”
