The French midfielder appeared to be close to Milan this summer, but dramatically moved to their city rivals in a deal worth around €35m.

“I think Inter was the best choice,” Kondogbia reflected, speaking to Sky.

“I’m just starting to get to know the Italian League and the Coach, I think this is the best project for me to grow and improve at this point in my career.

“Mancini can get the best out of players, I know and see that, but he’s also a great character. I’m honoured that he chose me, I liked what he said the best.

“I know he’s a Coach who helps young players develop, that was instrumental in my choice.

“My price? It’s normal. If it had happened two or three years ago I’d have been stressed and it would have affected me, but not now.

“The thing I’ve struggled with most is having different training and preparation, I wasn’t used to it and it’s been a bit difficult for me.

“The Italian League is a lot more tactical, there are a lot of teams who concentrate on defence, and that makes it harder to build your own play and find the space to score.

“I’m playing in a position [defensive midfield] that I know well, it’s different to my role at Monaco, but it allows me to improve the defensive side of my game.

“I can also play in a 4-2-3-1, Mancini knows how to make me better. We’ve been solid in the two games so far, so we have to keep working.

“We’ve got a lot of new players, so the team needs time to gel so we’re all as one. We’ve started well, and I hope we can continue on this path.”
