Both sides are on nine points in their Champions League group, but the Giallorossi are behind on the head-to-head record after losing 3-0 in Spain.

“We’ve always done well at the Olimpico in the Champions League,” Kolarov pointed out in an interview with Sky.

“If we can beat Real Madrid it’ll also give us confidence for the league. In the first game they were in their best period of the season, they were playing really well.

“Now they’re not doing so well, but we need to be good at taking possession of the ball because f they play with the ball they’re really strong. We’ll be aggressive and determined.

“We’re lacking a bit of consistency, and I think that one of the reasons for that is we have so many youngsters.

“It’s about growth, we veterans have to help them and I hope tomorrow we can play an important game which will give us a boost going forward.

“We’re four points off fourth place and our objective is the Champions League. If we keep losing then we won’t make it, but I’m convinced we can reach our goal.”
