Fiorentina are frustrated by a statement from Aleksandr Kokorin’s agent, who said rather than terminate his contract early, he is determined to ‘stay and amaze everyone.’

The Russia international striker arrived in January 2021 from Spartak Moscow at a cost of €4.5m, but made zero impact in his 11 competitive appearances, which totalled 216 minutes of football.

It seemed inevitable that he would terminate the contract by mutual consent or find a transfer this summer, but he is refusing to leave the Stadio Artemio Franchi.

“Sasha accepted the challenge in Florence 16 months ago with great enthusiasm and is convinced he wants to continue it,” agent Timofey Berdyshev told FirenzeViola.

“Frankly, I don’t know why he hasn’t played consistently, but what I can say is that his rapport with the club and city has not changed. He just wants to play and score goals, nothing else.

“Nobody from the club contacted us to discuss a contract termination, nor has the player discussed it with me, so I don’t think that is an option right now.

“I won’t deny there are offers from Russia and some clubs called to ask for information on Kokorin, but the situation with the war is certainly not helping at the moment.

“In any case, Sasha wants to continue his experience with Fiorentina and to feel useful.”
