Both La Gazzetta dello Sport and Tuttosport highlight Juventus‘ problems in midfield which have worsened following Weston McKennie’s injury.

The USMNT international will remain out of action for at least two months following the fracture of the 2nd and 3rd metatarsal bones of his left foot.

Manuel Locatelli has scored three goals so far and the other midfielders have combined two, including one from new signing Denis Zakaria. The ex-Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder is McKennie’s ideal replacement, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, but the Bianconeri would still lack quality in the middle of the park.

Gone are the days when the Bianconeri could rely on the likes of Claudio Marchisio, Paul Pogba, Andrea Pirlo and Arturo Vidal. The Old Lady needs more quality and dynamism in the middle of the park and can only get that by signing new players at the end of the season.

According to Tuttosport, the likes of Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, Paul Pogba and Nicolò Zaniolo are all being monitored by the Serie A giants. Juventus signed Dusan Vlahovic for €80m from Fiorentina in January and the striker has scored two goals in his first five appearances with the club. However, he often looked too isolated up front, so Juventus will need to give him better service and new recruits over the summer would help Allegri and the rest of the team.

8 thought on “Italian media highlight biggest Juventus issue and how to solve it”
  1. How to solve it? Sack Allegri. Can’t have a fluid attack when your best midfielders main priority is to always sit deep in their own half.

  2. Spot on Knack Knack and Gman – Allegri is the problem. Not starting Arthur, Locatelli and Zakaria against Viallareal was criminal. These 3 midfielders are good enough, but he has not deployed them together once and when he plays Zakaria he plays him out of position just as he plays Loca out of position. 3 more years of this clown and Juve will be irreparably damaged. Allegri out!!!!

  3. The squard is the problem for christ sake! Not Allegri!
Things doesn’t change overnight when you basically are missing a whole midfield instead of the mess that Paratici left behind.

  4. Frankie you should have to eat some humble pie. Months ago you, Brandon and clown danger were advocating for Allegri and asking for patience. The Juve fans who once said”Pirlo out” were informing everyone that he needed the right players. PhD Grandad has never been an attack minded coach or a builder of teams. 2013 version of Milan is replicating itself and he has been in a coma for at least 5 years. All this talk about he could have gone to Real, Chelsea and Man Utd was all BS to just convince the fans that he was in demand. The fact is nobody at the big clubs wanted him and he was hibernating in the foothills of Tuscany. Management are first and foremost to blame as they do not want to invest in the midfield (Zakaria is a defensive midfielder), wingbacks and even the ageing defence. Dusan should have used his head and gone to the joke of North London, only to elevate his profile and get the bigger clubs to break the bank for him at a later point.

  5. So true @Lord Allegri, a lot of fans blow like the wind. When the team is winning they’re happy and they go into reverse mode when the chips are down. I do not see anything new from Allegri and it is a replica of the outdated playbook that Mourinho used to great effect from 2004-2012.
People can point to Pep and Klopp having money to spend, but if you look at their teams they play with a set identity that is in line with the modern game. Conte was a bit like this during his Juve days but even he is limited with his cherished 3-5-2. I am certain next year will be no different as you have a manager that is not going to change his approach, methods and characteristics he wants in his players.
Dark 4 years ahead but Juve will come good after that I am sure.
