Venezia goalkeeper Sergio Romero has undergone keyhole surgery to remove particles from his right knee.

The 35-year-old Argentina international will be out for several weeks after the operation, performed by Doctor Ramon Cugat in Barcelona.

A statement from the club confirmed the surgery was necessary to remove loose particles inside the right knee.

Romero formerly played for the likes of Sampdoria and Manchester United before coming to Venezia as a free agent in October 2021.

He made 16 Serie A appearances for the Lagunari this season, keeping three clean sheets and conceding 33 goals.
