It was rumoured for several days that Leiva was looking at options to clean up the meniscus and cartilage in his right knee, which was causing recurring inflammation.

Now SoloLazio.it claim the Brazilian has taken the plunge and gone under the knife this morning.

Leiva won’t be able to play for at least a month, but with the lockdown dragging on amid the coronavirus pandemic, it’s likely we won’t see any Serie A football by then either.

Lazio need the former Liverpool man in good shape for the Scudetto push, as they sit one point behind leaders Juventus.

The 33-year-old has made 27 competitive appearances for the Biancocelesti this season.
