The season is over for Luis Muriel, as Atalanta confirm the striker sustained a knee ligament injury during the 2-0 defeat to Milan.

La Dea are still in the running for a place in the Europa League or the Conference League going into the final round of the campaign.

However, Muriel will not be taking part in Saturday’s home match against Empoli.

The Colombia international has been diagnosed with a Grade I-II tear of the internal collateral ligament in his left knee.

That will mean several weeks on the sidelines, so international duty over the summer would also seem to be out of the question.

Atalanta are also missing Ruslan Malinovskyi for their final Serie A fixture against Empoli, as he sits out a one-match ban for accumulation of yellow cards.

Rafael Toloi, Giuseppe Pezzella and Josip Ilicic are also expected to be out of action this weekend for coach Gian Piero Gasperini.
