Napoli confirm Faouzi Ghoulam has sustained a knee injury, with reports they fear cruciate ligament damage yet again.

It would be a devastating blow for the 30-year-old Algeria international, whose career has been derailed by injuries over the last three years.

The problems started in November 2017 with a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, then he fractured his kneecap in February 2018, required more surgery in July 2018 and only just really recovered.

Ghoulam pulled up suddenly during this evening’s 3-1 Serie A victory over Bologna and at first it was believed he had a thigh strain.

However, a statement released by Napoli confirms Ghoulam has sprained his left knee and will undergo further tests at the Villa Stuart clinic in Rome.

This is not the same knee that had so many problems, but Calciomercato.it suggest there are concerns of anterior cruciate damage.
