Milan striker Patrick Cutrone, Roma winger Justin Kluivert, Matthijs de Ligt, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Vinicius Junior are the top five contenders for the Golden Boy Award.

The trophy is given out every year to the young player most likely to blossom going forward, with previous winners including Paul Pogba and Kylian Mbappé.

It is organised by Tuttosport, but decided by a panel of journalists all over the world and will be announced on December 17 in Turin’s iconic Mole Antonelliana.

There is also a public vote for a different people’s award.

Tuttosport confirmed the top five contenders include two currently plying their trade in Serie A.

Milan and Italy Under-21 striker Cutrone scored 18 goals in all club competition last season, becoming against all odds the Rossoneri’s top marksman.

The other Serie A representative is Dutch winger Kluivert, the son of Patrick, who is currently making his mark at Roma since the summer transfer from Ajax.

So far, it is Kluivert who is seemingly the hot favourite to be named Golden Boy for 2018.

His former teammate at Ajax, defender De Ligt, is also in the running for the trophy.

Liverpool full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold is another contender along with Real Madrid’s Brazilian signing Vinicius.
