Lazio have received the news they most dreaded, as Miroslav Klose injury is confirmed as serious enough to rule him out of the team’s next five games.

The German international pulled out of a Thursday training ground match after just 20 minutes with a suspected left thigh strain, an injury that the club described yesterday as ‘not minor’.

The Aquile’s bleak outlook has been confirmed, as results of the 33-year-old’s MRI scan reveal a first degree strain.

“Tests conducted [in Munich] have shown the presence of a first degree lesion of the muscles of the left thigh,” read a club statement.

“The player will return to Rome to begin physiotherapy and rehabilitation protocol that will last for three to four weeks.”

Alongside the weekend’s visit of Cagliari, Klose’s recovery is likely to see him miss games with Parma, Napoli, Juventus and Novara.
