The Aquile are currently third in Serie A, occupying the final Champions League place, and are only a point behind bitter rivals Roma.

However, the German striker says qualification for the Europa League is still their objective.

“Our primary goal is the Europa League,” Klose told German website Sport1.

“That said, it’s obvious we’d like to get something more, maybe second place which would grant automatic access to the Champions League.

“However, we must not make the mistake of thinking that it’s easy to maintain our current position. We know the road ahead is complicated.”

The all-time World Cup top goalscorer then reiterated that he hasn’t decided whether or not to stay in Rome beyond this season.

“I have a contract with Lazio, and there’s a clause which grants me a renewal and I’m happy about that, because it allows me to finish the season with confidence.

“We’ll see what I decide, but it will be a spur-of-the-moment decision, one that I will not think about too much. I’ll speak with my family to understand what the best thing to do is.

“I might retire, or decide to spend another year here in Rome. For now all I’m thinking about is finishing the season well.”
