Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp says Mohamed Salah has a chance to win the Ballon d’or: ‘But I have no idea how exactly you win it.’

Italy and Chelsea star Jorginho is among the candidates for the title after being crowned European champion for club and country in 2021.

Five Italian players are among the 30-man shortlist for the Ballon d’Or with Gigio Donnarumma, Leonardo Bonucci, Giorgio Chiellini and Nicolò Barella joining the former Napoli star.

Serie A stars Lautaro Martinez and Simon Kjaer are also among the candidates along with former Roma star Momo Salah.

The Egypt international has scored 10 goals in 10 appearances so far this season.

The 29-year-old made headlines with his last two against Manchester City and Watford, so Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp was asked whether or not the former Roma star could win the title.

“I have no idea how exactly you win the Ballon d’Or,” Klopp replied.

“If it’s about being in the Champions League final, scoring the most goals, then it could be slightly difficult but if it’s about performances over the last two years then he has a chance from my point of view but I’m not involved in the competition.

“Does he get the recognition finally? Internally he always got it, externally I don’t know,” the coach added during his pre-match press conference ahead of the Champions League match against Atletico Madrid, as quoted by Goal.com.

“After two goals he scored, now people think all of a sudden because of that he could be the best player in the world, it is a bit strange.”

The Reds face Atletico tomorrow in the third Champions League group stage game.

They are in the same group as Milan, who visit Porto on Tuesday.

Both Liverpool and Atletico beat Stefano Pioli’s side in their opening Champions League games of the season.

  1. Maybe because there are Italians up for the award too but do they really have a chance? Who knows?
You don’t have to read every article that doesn’t interest you.

  2. Basically it’s normally the best player in the world ie Messi v Ronaldo debate….. Modric won it due to pressure from fans and he is Madrid!

Normally the player who wins the Champions league / Euros or World Cup finishes close second and wins the other lesser award, which Jorginho has won already think it’s UEFA player of year or the Best something like that! Okay Klopp think that’s it more or less! Like Iniesta and Robert have also done in the past
