Kjaer: ‘Milan made too many errors’

Simon Kjaer explains that ‘football is a game of errors’ and Milan made far too many of them in a 4-3 loss to Fiorentina.

The Rossoneri had not leaked four goals in a single Serie A game since their 4-2 Milan Derby defeat to Inter in February 2020.

Some of them were utterly avoidable, for instance after Ciprian Tatarusanu fumbled a corner and Theo Hernandez was caught in possession.

“Football is a game of errors,” Kjaer told Sky Sport Italia.

“Tonight we conceded four, the first time this season, and obviously that hurts for a centre-back like me.

“We need to learn from this, work hard and use it as fuel. We have another big game coming up and we must keep going forward.”

What did Stefano Pioli say in the locker room after the 4-3 defeat at the Stadio Franchi?

“Of course the coach was severe. All the things he said were important, things we need to learn from. We conceded four goals this evening and obviously have to improve. We also had the chances to score five or six, but conceding four is too much.”

Kjaer seems so settled at Milan, he was asked if he occasionally thinks back and reflects on his failed spells in Serie A with Roma and Atalanta.

“I tried to join Milan many times in my career, and after an unhappy period with Atalanta when the coach chose other players more suited to his tactics, there was this opportunity.

“I look back at my career occasionally, but I am still playing and enjoying myself. I will look back when I’ve finished.”
