Milan defender Simon Kjaer is unhappy with his lack of playing time with the Rossoneri: ‘The match against Tottenham was probably the best performance after my injury.’

The Denmark international returned to action last summer after a knee injury suffered against Genoa in December 2021.

He has played 15 matches this term, collecting barely 1,000 minutes with the Rossoneri.

“Sometimes it goes as you want, but other times it does happen,” he told the Danish outlet DR, as quoted by Gazzetta.

“At the end of the day, the coach decides, but the match against Tottenham in the Champions League was probably my best after the injury, so I am annoyed that I haven’t played since then.

“I’ve been training with no stops for two months, something I hadn’t done for eight years, so my shape has nothing to do with it, I am at my best.

“I still have under and energy to play football and I want to continue being so.”

Kjaer joined Milan on a free transfer from Atalanta in January 2020 and has played 87 games with the Rossoneri scoring one goal. He is the Denmark captain with 122 international appearances and five goals.

The 33-year-old started 14 games with the Rossoneri across all competitions in 2022-23.

Milan lost three of the last five Serie A matches but managed to qualify for the Champions League quarter-finals for the first time in 11 years.

A top-four finish remains their priority target in Serie A this term, but the Rossoneri are only one point above fifth-placed Roma.
