The break for international duty has been very damaging for Milan, as news comes through that Simon Kjaer suffered an ankle injury, with Mike Maignan out for a month.

There have already been problems for Stefano Pioli, who already had Sandro Tonali and Theo Hernandez pick up injuries in the Nations League.

Maignan has left the France camp with Le Parisien reporting there is a lesion to the calf muscle, which would keep him out of action for a month.

If confirmed, Milan could remove Maignan from the Champions League squad list to bring in Ciprian Tatarusanu, as Antonio Mirante is the only other goalkeeper available.

Now Kjaer has picked up an ankle knock during Denmark’s game against Croatia.

Comments from the Danish coach Kasper Hjulmand suggest that it is not serious, as Kjaer will remain with the squad, at least for now.

He will have further tests and is likely to be rested for the final Nations League group game, even if he is not sent back to the Milan camp straight away.
