Venezia midfielder Sofian Kiyine was shown a straight red card during this evening’s Serie A trip to Roma for kicking Lorenzo Pellegrini in the crotch.

The incident occurred 32 minutes into the match at the Stadio Olimpico with Venezia leading 1-0.

Kiyine had already been booked, but it was a straight red that he received following the VAR on-field review.

The Venezia player argued that it was unintentional, as he was looking the other way, but it seemed to be a very accurate kick right between the legs.

Pellegrini was on the ground receiving treatment for several minutes and managed to continue playing after a brief respite.

Kiyine is not a popular figure for Roma fans anyway, as he is owned by Lazio and currently on loan at Venezia.

It was an obligation to buy if the Lagunari stayed in Serie A, but their relegation was mathematically guaranteed this afternoon with Salernitana‘s draw away to Empoli.
