Keylor Navas has revealed that he has no intention of sharing his starting spot at Paris Saint-Germain with Gianluigi Donnarumma next season.

The 35-year-old Costa Rican shot stopper has only made 18 Ligue 1 and three Champions League appearances this season, sharing the starting spot with the former Milan man, who joined on a free transfer last summer. It’s been a strange dynamic in the French capital, with neither goalkeeper getting to play more than a handful of consecutive games.

Speaking to Canal+, Navas discussed his future following Donnarumma’s arrival in Paris.

“I want to play all the time, I won’t do another year like this. Right now I’m happy in Paris, but for the future many things will have to be considered.”

Navas, who returned to the starting spot in PSG’s 3-0 win over Angers last night, then touched on his relationship with the Italian goalkeeper.

“I can’t think of living a situation like the one we’ve had this year. I have a good relationship with Donnarumma, but I always want to play and be on the pitch every game. For the future we will have to consider many things.”

Things have not been easy for Donnarumma following his arrival last summer. The 23-year-old Italian has made a number of high profile errors and his confidence has seemingly plummeted, leaving him looking more dejected than ever before.

Whilst Milan fans are revelling in his unfortunate start, fans of the Italian national team are concerned that their number one is having a tough time.

  1. Revelling? Not at all. I think the majority of Milan fans, like myself, really don’t care. As for the Azzurri I’m quite disappointed. PSG was meant according to Donnarumma to be the next step. His development thus far though has not been ideal. His potential on the other hand is still undisputed!

  2. PSG was a poor choice for him. Unfortunately Pochettino didn’t have the sense to choose him as no 1 and this has dented his confidence.

  3. And not one mention of Raiola. That’s what it is.. The deals get pushed through by greedy agents and greedy players but the only one to suffer are the players and not the agents. Raiola is probably revelling this more than anyone as there could be a potential transfer on the horizon.

  4. Lots of players come and go and a lot more shine for a few years then disappear. I don’t want him to lose everything and have to play for Parma or a small club but I think the kid will have a hard time recovering. He should have remained in Milan or at least went somewhere he was guaranteed to start.

  5. What a farce.

This just about sums up modern football. Pointless transfers, oversized squad leading to completely unnecessary player rotations. Barring injury or suspension a GK should be able to play every game in a season. With that consistency comes better performances by the player snd the team. This makes no sense except in the world of football transfers.

  6. PSG buying Donnarumma when they already had a top keeper with tons of winning experience in Navas was such a greedy dumb move. its hurting Gigi’s development.
personally id like to see him go to Juve.
