Franck Kessie hails a ‘special’ night for Milan, who beat Atletico Madrid for their first Champions League win in over seven years.

Champions League | Atletico Madrid 0-1 Milan: Messias keeps Diavolo alive

Junior Messias came off the bench and nodded in the excellent Kessie cross from the left to seal a 1-0 victory at the Wanda Metropolitano.

“This is special, because we won our first Champions League game, as we fought to the bitter end to have a place in this competition and dreamed of this night,” Kessie told Sky Sport Italia.

“We fought hard, believed all the way and got the deserved victory. Naturally, this win will be a huge boost for everyone.

“It is never easy to play here, we battled for every ball with a series of duels and we are very happy.”

This result means that it all goes down to the final game of the group, so Milan could still get second place, third for passage to the Europa League or finish bottom and go out of Europe entirely.

“We’ve been trying to get into the Champions League for so many years and I am glad we can challenge all the way to the end.”
