The representatives of Barcelona and former Milan midfielder Franck Kessie have hushed widespread rumours that their client has rejected a salary reduction from his employers in Catalonia.

Reports in recent days claimed that Barcelona had put Kessie up for sale in order to raise much-needed funds ahead of the summer transfer window after rejecting a request from the club to lower the player’s annual wages.

Kessie’s agents have been in contact with Calciomercato to claim that the rumours, which they claim originated in the Spanish outlet Sport have no foundation.

They told the Italian press that there has been no negotiation of any kind between Kessie and Barcelona and that the false rumours “harm the interests and image” of the player.

Following the reports that Kessie was set to leave Camp Nou in the summer, there had been belief that Inter could be poised to snap up the Ivorian, potentially in an exchange deal involving Marcelo Brozovic moving in the other direction.

Those rumours accelerated when Inter’s CEO Piero Ausilio met with representatives from Barcelona in Catalonia earlier in April.

There has also been interest in Kessie from Juventus reported in the media in recent days.
