Lazio’s injury crisis is set to worsen, with Keita Balde reportedly out for 40 days and Stefan De Vrij likely to go under the knife.

The Biancocelesti have been struck by a relentless stream of injuries to key players this season, with De Vrij, captain Lucas Biglia, Marco Parolo and Filip Djordjevic all currently sidelined.

Winger Keita Balde’s name was added to that list on Sunday when he sustained a sustained an injury to his medial collateral ligament during the defeat to Sassuolo.

Il Messaggero has reported today that the setback will see the Spaniard out of action for 40 days and that he won’t be available again until the match against Palermo on 22 November.

The injury was initially thought to be a sprain but has been discovered to be more serious and the 20-year-old becomes the 11th Lazio player to be injured in two months.

Gazzetta dello Sport writes that Netherlands international De Vrij is likely to go in for surgery after undergoing further evaluations on his knee injury in Spain, Germany and the USA.

The 23-year-old was injured on international duty 40 days ago and it is estimated that he will be absent for around three months if he undergoes surgery.
