Goalkeeper Marco Paoloni has denied spiking his ex-Cremonese teammates' drinks in a bid to fix games for a betting syndicate.
Police are interrogating suspects in the betting scandal that erupted this month in Serie A, B and Lega Pro.
The investigation began with a Cremonese play-off match against Paganese, as several players and staff members felt unwell after the game.

It is alleged goalkeeper Paoloni, now playing for Benevento and said to be deep in debt, spiked their water with an anti-anxiety medication that causes drowsiness to affect their performance.
“Paoloni clarified his position,” said lawyer Emanuela Di Paolo after a six and a half hour interrogation.
“He denied all responsibility for the drug given to his teammates. I would like to point out for the entire interrogation he held a photograph of his wife and daughter.”
However, magistrate Guido Salvini is leading the investigation and gave a very different version of Friday's events.
“There is an almost total confirmation that incidents of sporting fraud took place and these interviews brought about new investigative avenues.”
