Moise Kean returns to the Italy squad after 10 months out and admits ‘it is up to me now to repay those who have faith in me’ after a good start to life at Fiorentina.

The striker had been left out of the Azzurri camp – reportedly for showing a poor attitude – and failed to make the squad for the EURO 2024 campaign after failing to score a single goal all season.

However, he has really landed on his feet since the transfer from Juventus to Fiorentina, scoring three goals in five competitive games between Serie A and the Conference League.

Coach Luciano Spalletti also said he was expecting great things from the 24-year-old.

“His words fired me up and motivate me to do well,” Kean told Vivo Azzurro TV.

“I have a good rapport with the coach, I know that he expects a lot from me and now it is up to me to repay those who have faith in me.”

Kean feels he has matured

Despite only turning 24 in February, he has already travelled extensively playing for Juventus, Verona, Everton, Paris Saint-Germain and now Fiorentina.

“I am very happy with this return to the Azzurri camp and it is wonderful to wear this jersey, work with my teammates and the coach, be given the opportunity to defend these colours. I learned a lot over the last few months and had many experiences, both positive and negative, that helped me to mature.”

Kean had skipped yesterday’s training session due to a fitness problem, but was back in the group this afternoon and took part in the game between ranks.

“I feel good, it was planned to train separately yesterday, seeing as I had played both on Thursday in the Conference League and on Sunday in Serie A.”

Italy’s first matches after the dismal EURO 2024 campaign will be in the Nations League, visiting France on Friday and then taking on Israel on neutral turf in Budapest on Monday.

“We are facing a strong France side and it will be a big test, but I expect a great performance from us. We must be ready and we will be.”
