The battle between Roma and Rick Karsdorp is intensifying with reports the full-back is claiming he cannot attend training due to ‘psychological issues.’

The Dutchman refused to turn up when called to the Trigoria training ground and was again not present when the squad set off for a tour of Japan.

According to Sky Sport Italia transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio, this was because Karsdorp’s entourage provided a medical certificate claiming he could not participate due to psychological issues.

Roma are threatening legal action and want to get their own medical staff to evaluate the player directly.

The problems started after a 1-1 draw with Sassuolo, when Jose Mourinho openly blamed one player for “betraying” his teammates with an “unprofessional attitude” coming off the bench.

It was later confirmed to be Karsdorp, who was left out of the squad for the next Serie A match and flew back to the Netherlands ahead of schedule.

A legal battle is now on the cards, but whatever happens, it looks as if Karsdorp has played his last game for Roma.

He has been linked with Juventus and could therefore continue his career in Serie A.
