Loris Karius made his return to English football at the weekend in the Carabao Cup Final, but there’s a special reason why he could end up at Inter next season – his love for Diletta Leotta.

The former Liverpool goalkeeper’s career has been on the slide ever since his costly howlers in the 2018 Champions League Final.

He went on loan to Besiktas and Union Berlin before returning to England for Newcastle United as a free agent in September 2022.

Karius made only one competitive appearance this season, namely Sunday’s 2-0 defeat to Manchester United in the Carabao Cup Final at Wembley Stadium.

On the eve of that match, an open letter went viral on The Athletic, written by his girlfriend, DAZN Italia television presenter Leotta.

“The two years of sad nights, the knot in your throat and the bad thoughts that kept you away from playing, but not from your greatest passion; the green football pitch that makes millions of children dream every day.

“A big thank you to your team and the strength you’ve been able to find in one another. Of course, we don’t deny it, the blow was hard, but, as you taught me, life is 10 per cent what happens to you and 90 per cent how you decide to react.

“Sometimes you need to take a step back in order to make a better run-up and I am sure this run-up will lead you and the whole team to fly. No one deserves it more.”

Because of his relationship with Leotta, there are now reports on FCInterNews.it that Karius could be angling for a move to Italy in the summer.

Inter are looking for a new understudy for Andre Onana, as Samir Handanovic is expected to hang up his gloves at the end of the season.
