Harry Kane called Antonio Conte a ‘great man’ after the coach’s Tottenham departure but noted that sometimes the Italian’s ‘emotions come out’.

The 53-year-old left North London in a rather acrimonious fashion at the end of March, coming soon after his explosive press conference following a 3-3 draw with Southampton.

Conte did well in his first season with Tottenham, but things started to regress this season, with results poor on the pitch and the coach facing numerous personal difficulties off of it.

Speaking via Football London, Kane discussed Conte’s departure from Tottenham and gave his thoughts on the Italian’s time in charge.

“Obviously I wish Antonio all the best. I had a great relationship with him, and it was just unfortunate that for one reason or another it didn’t quite work.

“I wish him luck in his next adventure and in the meantime, we’ll continue to fight with Cristian, Ryan and the staff and try and achieve what we set out to.”

The Spurs captain was then asked about Conte’s now-infamous press conference following the draw with Southampton.

“I’m not going to get into that. It was an emotional moment after we should have won the game and to concede two goals in the way we did we were all disappointed. He’s a great man, his emotions come out at times and that’s who he is, and he owns that.

“Us players, we talk amongst ourselves to keep fighting and keep improving. We know that Southampton game, we know the Everton game last week we need to do better in those moments when we’re leading. Overall, all we can do is keep trying to fight and that’s what we’ll do.”

There is now much speculation regarding Conte’s future, with reports in Italy suggesting that a return to either Juventus or Inter could be on the horizon. The idea of a sabbatical year has also not been ruled out.
