Roma are reportedly targeting Real Madrid striker Mariano Diaz to replace Nikola Kalinic, who has been offered to Newcastle United.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Mariano is Paulo Fonseca’s “favourite” option to reinforce Roma’s attack.

The 26-year-old has not played at all for Madrid this season, but the newspaper warns they still want €6m for a loan deal.

Despite that, he would be above Andrea Petagna and Andrea Pinamonti on the Giallorossi’s shortlist.

On the other hand, Kalinic looks to be on his way out of the Olimpico after a first half to the season marred by injury and a lack of game time.

Il Corriere writes the former Milan and Fiorentina attacker has already rejected moves to Serie A sides Verona and Genoa.

That leaves Newcastle, who have struggled for goals, but the publication states “it is not certain” the 31-year-old will accept the Magpies’ proposal.
