Anti-southern bigotry is a recurring problem in Italy, with some northerners stereotyping their southern compatriots as being corrupt, unclean and uncivilised.

Today Juve met with the FIGC to discuss the matter, and a statement has now been released by Italian football’s governing body.

The Federation confirmed that Juventus “expressed the most availability possible to censure the event” including “considering the possibility of withdrawing the Under-15 team”.

However, as that would “inevitably compromise the regular conduct of the championship”, the boys will instead be sent on a training course to learn about “respect for the opponent” and “correct use” of social media.
