Filip Kostic has withdrawn from the Serbia squad with a concerning tendon problem, leaving Juventus anxious ahead of a busy month.
The 30-year-old winger has been an important source of creativity in Massimiliano Allegri’s Bianconeri squad this season, scoring three goals and providing 11 assists across 38 games.
Kostic has directly contributed to five goals in his last seven Serie A appearances and was called up by Serbia for this international break, playing the entire 90 minutes of their 2-0 win over Lithuania, where he picked up another assist.
Serbia coach Dragan Stojkovic announced in a press conference today that Kostic had been forced to withdraw from the squad due to an Achilles tendon problem.
“Bad news for us, he left the team yesterday. It is an inflammation of the Achilles tendon. There was no need to take any risks and the decision was for him to return to the club.”
Kostic will undergo a round of medical tests with Juventus in the coming days to determine if he’s suffered an injury or not.
The club are hoping it was just a precautionary move as they prepare for a busy April, when they’ll face Hellas Verona, Lazio, Sassuolo, Napoli and Bologna in Serie A, the Coppa Italia semi-finals with Inter and the Europa League quarter-finals with Sporting.
