Juventus have officially voided a total of 1,400 tickets purchased by SC Freiburg supporters hoping to sit in the home end of the Allianz Stadium for the upcoming meeting of the two clubs in the Europa League Round of 16.
Having sold out their initial away allocation, a number of Freiburg fans were able to acquire Juve club memberships and subsequently buy tickets in the home sections of the stadium.
Juventus detected a series of anomalies through their ticketing system before deciding to alert the necessary authorities.
UEFA does not permit home and away supporters to mix in the stands in any of its competitions.
The Bianconeri have promised to reimburse the cost of any tickets that were purchased by travelling fans hoping to sit in the Juve sections of the ground.
Freiburg are reported to be disappointed by the decision, claiming they had hoped to reach an alternative arrangement with Italian authorities.
A statement on the club’s Twitter feed read: “SCF regrets the decision by Juventus and the Italian authorities to cancel tickets purchased by Freiburg fans through memberships at the home club for Thursday’s UEFA Europa League round of 16 first leg in Turin.
“All tickets that were acquired through SC Freiburg remain valid.”
“We appealed for other solutions with the host club and made offers to help implement additional security measures. Unfortunately, these offers were not accepted.”
