David Neres, who had been a Juventus transfer target this summer, has completed a move to Benfica.

The Bianconeri are in the market for a new winger and while Angel Di Maria, who is a free agent after leaving Paris Saint-Germain, remains their top targets, they are struggling  to get the deal over the lines and alternative names appeared in the Italian media.

As well as Neres, there was Sassuolo‘s Italy international Domenico Berardi.

But the Brazil international will not be joining Juve as he is now a Benfica player.

The Portuguese giants confirmed he has signed a contract until 2027 as they post images of Neres alongside former Fiorentina and Milan midfielder Manuel Rui Costa, who is the club’s sporting director.

Neres was part of the Ajax side which reached the 2019 Champions League semi-final, knocking Juve out en route.

He joined Shakhtar Donetsk in January but Russia’s invasion of the Ukraine in February caused the deal to be cancelled.

  1. Good move for the young man. He was unlucky to have gambled with the move to Ukraine but wise to avoid PhD Max. Now he can go to a good club and use it as a platform to alert the bigger clubs in Europe. Pathetic that a once proud Juventus cannot attract any young talents. Even a 34 years young (good player) is thinking twice about a move to a smaller European club, as well as baulking at the prospect of Cowboy Max.

  2. @ Lord

Barca are a “smaller European club” today? You’ve managed to outdo yourself on pushing the limits of stupidity with that one! Bravo

  3. Gio, the only foolish is you. It has nothing to do with Barca. Since you went there, Barcelona have 5 champions leagues crowns. 4 of which from 2006, 2009, 2011, 2015, were all accomplished in a time frame, which Juve cannot argue with. Also in those 9 years they have accumulated more champions league crowns then the entire Juve collection. 80% achieved in the modern era. Juve last won when the internet was experimenting with dial up.

Mr. Lord is quite right to point out the pulling power or lack of it that Juve have found themselves in. I mean come on Di Maria should be a quick job. He is 34 years old and not many clubs are looking at him. I am not an Inter fan, but look at their dealings. They are determined to win again. Are Juve serious about winning trophies?

  4. From my side, I would like to see a Juve with many young players and a couple of older mature guys with a coach that has the balls to launch them and allows them to make mistakes to mature. Something that Allegri has yet to prove he is capable of.

Where I might disagree with lord is that in my opinion, Juve’s problem is one or two levels higher than the coach, i. e. sporting director and president. Juve performed admireably regardless of the coach when Marotta was the sporting director. In European and local cups, Allegri actually performed way better than Conte ever did.

I am pretty confident that if Marotta was still at Juve, he could have convinced Dybala to extend his contract with a similar salary to that offered to him at Inter.

  5. @Zambrotta there is nothing wrong with what @Kanwar has written. Apart from the first few words, everything is fine. Maybe he is not a native English speaker, and perhaps it was a typing error. We have all been through it. He is coherent and probably speaks a lot more languages, in comparison to idiots who name themselves after former players. Again I give him credit for actually using his real name, rather then hiding his identity. Looking at the content, he is not wrong with those stats. I guess percentages and numbers are too hard for Juventini to follow. Oh well maybe a Champions League title will arrive in 2000 years.

  6. Just as i thought, Juve only been reported as seeking or targeting but it never materialized.
It will be the same for the other prospective target
