Fiorentina striker Giovanni Simeone warns tomorrow’s game will be “the Battle of Waterloo” for Juventus.

The Bianconeri visit the Stadio Artemio Franchi tomorrow for one of the most passionate games of the season, and will go top of the league, at least temporarily, with a win.

“My first thought is to relive the immense joy of a year ago when, in a Genoa shirt, I scored a double past [Gianluigi] Buffon and helped the team give the fans a very important 3-1 win,” Simeone recalled, speaking to Tuttosport.

“My first thought is to relive the immense joy of a year ago when, in a Genoa shirt, I scored a double past [Gianluigi] Buffon and helped the team give the fans a very important 3-1 win,” Simeone recalled, speaking to Tuttosport.

“That was the best day of my life, not just on a professional level. I said it then and I’ll repeat it now, those two goals will always remain in my memories.

“I’ll tell them and hand them down to my children, when I have them.

“I’d give everything to do it again tomorrow, but I’d give up scoring to win. I’m really fired-up, the fans have really given me a boost.

“There’s incredible anticipation, the other day I was in the supermarket and there wasn’t one person who recognised me who didn’t say: ‘score past Buffon, beat Juve’.

“That’s never happened before other games.

“Juve are one of the strongest teams, they’re compact, solid, clever; they defend and attack well, all of them are champions and no matter how much they’ve won they’re always hungry.

“But my teammates and I have a crazy desire to give our people a magical night. Fiorentina can stop this Juve.

“We’re aware of our values, we’re hungry too. Every team, even the strongest ones, has weak points and Juve are no exception.

“If we fight to the end without giving up, with heart, courage and grit we can do it. In short, we’re ready.

“Before the game I’ll talk with my dad [Diego] as always. He won’t tell me to go out on the pitch and split Juve though, because he already knows I’ll do it, or at least try until the end.

“Fiorentina-Juventus as a work of art? A painting, depicting the Battle of Waterloo.”
