Juventus director Cristiano Giuntoli aims to sign three more players this summer and confirms Adrien Rabiot won’t sign a contract extension while Maurizio Scanavino says the minimum 2024-25 target is to qualify for the Champions League.

Thiago Motta’s era at Juventus has already begun, but the ex-Italy international is being unveiled as the new Bianconeri coach at a press conference today.

Before the coach started answering questions from the media, Juventus CEO Scanavino and Sporting Director Giuntoli took stock of the current situation.

“First of all, I want to thank Thiago for accepting this challenge. Good luck to him,” said Giuntoli.

“We sold four players: Iling-Junior, Barrenechea, Kean and Kaio Jorge. We signed three players, Di Gregorio, Thuram and Douglas Luiz and a fourth is incoming, hopefully Cabal.”

There were reports that a few players would be frozen out of the team because they are not part of Motta’s plans, but Giuntoli insists this is not true.

“I want to clarify that all players are part of Juventus and extraordinary footballers,” he said.

“We’ll make our assessments at the end of the transfer window, keeping a competitive team and being sustainable. There will be more developments. We’d like to sign one player in each role to give the coach the best of what we can do now. Finally, I want to thank Rabiot. His contract expired on June 30 and we wish him a happy future.”

This means that the Frenchman’s career will continue elsewhere. He’s been linked with Liverpool and Manchester United, but also Milan and Napoli in Serie A.

Juventus CEO Scanavino also welcomed Motta and revealed the minimum target in Serie A for the Bianconeri in 2024-25.

“Today, we officially unveil our new coach, Thiago Motta,” he said.

“A young and ambitious coach who was very determined to join us after an important season at Bologna. He will help us continue the team’s development through competitiveness and sustainability, which are the club’s guidelines. The next season will be thrilling, with five competitions. We set no limits for ourselves, and the minimum objective in Serie A is to qualify for the Champions League.”
