Roberto Mancini has named a 25-man squad for Sunday’s friendly in Austria, but lost Juventus midfielder Nicolò Fagioli to injury.
The Azzurri came back from a goal down to beat Albania 3-1 in Tirana on Wednesday evening and will be at the Ernst Happel Stadion in Vienna on Sunday at 19.45 GMT for the final match of 2022.
Fagioli sustained a knock to the right foot during training this afternoon and was ruled out of the match, so will return to Turin for tests with Juventus medical staff.
The squad is therefore reduced to 25 players for the journey to Vienna tomorrow.
There will be a minute’s silence before kick-off in Austria-Italy for former player Gerhard Rodax, who died in an accident on Wednesday.
He had 20 senior caps for Austria, participating in the 1990 World Cup and scoring a goal against the USA.
