Federico Chiesa suffered an injury minutes after his introduction in the second half of Juventus-Freiburg but didn’t leave the pitch not to reduce the team to 10 men.

The Italy international replaced Dusan Vlahovic at minute 67 in the first leg of the Europa League Round of 16 against Freiburg in Turin.

However, less than 15 minutes later, he fell on the floor in pain, touching his right knee. He received medical attention from Juventus staff and returned to the pitch shortly after but was clearly unable to contribute.

The Italy international could not run but didn’t leave the pitch, not to leave his teammates down to 10 men.

Massimiliano Allegri had made four substitutions but using all the three slots available so he could no longer replace Chiesa.

The Italian tactician released a brief update about the former Fiorentina winger.

“He felt something, we will assess him, we hope it’s nothing serious,” Allegri told Sky Sport Italia in his post-match interview.

Chiesa returned to action from an anterior cruciate ligament injury at the end of 2022. The injury he had sustained in January 2022 was in his left knee.
