Juventus start talks with Villarreal for Pau Torres

Juventus have started negotiations with Villarreal for Pau Torres, claim the Gazzetta dello Sport, and trying to cut into the €50m asking price.

The Bianconeri need a new defender to replace Matthijs de Ligt, who is in advanced talks for a switch to Bayern Munich this summer.

Their primary targets were Kalidou Koulibaly, who will have a Chelsea medical tomorrow, and Torino centre-back Gleison Bremer, who seems closer to Inter.

According to the Gazzetta dello Sport, Pau Torres has given the all-clear via his agents to start negotiations with Juventus.

It’s claimed he had rejected Tottenham Hotspur last summer with the promise he’d be allowed to leave in 2022.

The asking price is €50m, far too much for Juve, but they are ready to start finding some common ground with Villarreal.

Pau Torres is 25 years old and has 19 senior caps for Spain, also scoring one goal.

He is a product of the Villarreal youth academy and played for them his entire career, save for a loan spell at Malaga in 2018-19.

Another candidate to replace De Ligt would be Gabriel from Arsenal, whose asking price is in the region of €40m.
