Juventus star Dusan Vlahovic was not in the mood to celebrate his goal against Lecce: ‘It’s a sad day after what happened in Belgrade.’
The Serbian striker ended an 11-game goal drought against the Giallorossi on Wednesday, helping the Old Lady secure a much-needed 2-1 victory which keeps them in the top four in Serie A.
Vlahovic has now scored 12 goals in 37 appearances across all competitions this season. His contract at the Allianz Stadium expires in June 2026.
Juventus hadn’t won any of the previous four league matches, losing three and drawing once.
“It was important to win because we had had a poor run of form. I am happy for the goal, I missed it and I hope to continue,” Vlahovic told Juventus TV.
“However, this is a sad day for me after what happened in Belgrade this [Wednesday] morning. I want to send a big hug to everyone there.”
The Bianconeri star refers to a shooting carried out by a teenager in the Serbian Capital on Wednesday morning. The 13-year-old killed eight fellow students and a security guard. Six more students and a teacher were injured in the shooting.
The shooter has been arrested alongside his father and mother. He had planned the attack and had a list of targets, local police revealed on Wednesday.
