Juventus are gearing up for their decisive Europa League clash with SC Freiburg and will likely have to do without star winger Federico Chiesa.

The 25-year-old Italian missed the first half of this season due to a cruciate ligament rupture but finally began to receive some consistent minutes after the winter break, where he proved that he’d lost none of his abilities following his serious injury.

Although he’s still not at his peak match fitness, Chiesa has scored one goal and provided four assists for Juventus this season, being a key source of creativity in Massimiliano Allegri’s squad.

As highlighted by Gianluca Di Marzio, Chiesa is unlikely to take part in Juventus’ upcoming Europa League Round of 16 second leg clash with Freiburg.

The Italian winger continued his individual training work in Continassa today, working separately from his teammates just two days before the European outing. He suffered a muscle issue in the first leg with the Bundesliga outfit, but medical tests confirmed that he’d avoided a serious injury.

With the international break fast approaching, Allegri is unlikely to risk Chiesa until Juventus’ clash with Hellas Verona on April 1, although he could still appear in the Derby d’Italia with Inter on March 19.
