Whilst Juventus have struggled to find the back of the net this season, their solid defence could make the difference in the race for the Champions League spots.

The Bianconeri have only conceded 17 goals in the opening 19 games of the season, less than both second place Milan and fourth place Atalanta, and coach Massimiliano Allegri is well aware of the importance of a solid backline.

As highlighted by Tuttosport, Juventus have only conceded one goal in their last six matches, coming in their 1-1 draw at home against Venezia. Clean sheets have been kept in wins over Cagliari, Bologna, Malmö, Genoa and Salernitana, a sign of their defensive solidity.

Goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny has produced a number of result-saving saves in recent weeks and he has been helped by an in-form Matthijs de Ligt, who has neutralised a variety of attacks this campaign.

Allegri, who is often noted for achieving 1-0 defensive victories, will be hoping that the team keep up this consistency, which could prove decisive as they look to retain a top four finish this season. For now, they are four points behind Gian Piero Gasperini’s side.

  1. Better heard clean sheets have been earned from series against ac milan, inter, roma, atalanta, napoli…

  2. Cagliari, Bologna, Malmö, Genoa and Salernitana, a sign of their defensive solidity. WoW some achievement there really…. The 4-0 trashing by Chelsea tells tale about this solid defense. As long as alex fail sandro is there goals will keep leaking, always caught napping out of position and he rarely blocks a shot for the left side.

  3. The only reason Italy isn’t lower than Portugal in coefficient points is because Juve carried the country. While the rest did what? Complain, be broke. Typical… serie a is a common product yet you see the league on witch hunts on Juve… guess what

Without Juve no one watched serie a

Stay hating, stay miserable, just like your clubs 😉

  4. I agree with this. Juventus had a terrible start and suddenly they’re only 4 points from the top 4. The reason? Good old Juventus 1-0 wins. It’s the Juve way. Score one and park the bus, against provincial and top side alike. And it WILL be enough to seem them finish top 4. Would not even be surprised if they end up mounting a title challenge when it’s all said and done.
