Angelo Di Livio praises Juventus’ ‘great character’ in the Champions League win over Manchester City last night.

The Bianconeri fell behind to the English side, but came back to win the match 2-1, surprising many after their poor start in Serie A.

“Against Manchester [City], Juventus showed great character and desire, especially at 1-0 to the English,” former Juve midfielder Di Livio told Calciomercato.

“The great victory yesterday is a good sign, and a good starting point to start moving up the League.

“After four consecutive Scudetti, the team still seems alive and they still want to win.

“The criticism of Allegri? A Coach can make choices which may turn out to be wrong, but if you Coach Juventus or any other big club then you’re aware that you have to win.

“Can Juventus qualify? At first there was some doubt, because Sevilla aren’t bad either. But after the victory last night Juventus have taken a big step forward.”

Roma play Barcelona tonight in the Champions League, and Di Livio also gave his thoughts on that encounter.

“Today Roma are playing against the best team in the world, with a number of extraordinary players in their team.

“Roma must play a perfect match and take advantage of their chances, because Barcelona don’t give many away.

“The Blaugrana are super-favourites, but Roma shouldn’t get their heads down ahead of time, and shouldn’t spend too much time worrying about how to stop [Lionel] Messi, Neymar and [Luis] Suarez.

“[Rudi] Garcia’s team will keep it tight. The Giallorossi are playing at home and that will be an important stimulus.

“Roma have to go through this year. They didn’t succeed last year, but this year they have the players to do it.”

Finally, the former Juventus and Fiorentina man gave his thoughts on this year’s Scudetto race.

“Despite the players who have left the Bianconeri, whoever wants to win the Scudetto will have to fight with Juventus,” Di Livio predicted.

“There are the conditions for the Scudetto at Roma, they had a good transfer campaign and are built to try and win.

“This is a strong Roma, but they have to improve in some aspects. They can’t underestimate the small-to-medium teams.

Inter can also have a great season this year.”
