Mattia Perin is expected to receive his season debut in goal for Juventus against Sampdoria, resting Wojciech Szczesny.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport and Goal.com, Max Allegri has decided the time is right to rotate his squad and that includes the goalkeepers.

He probably would’ve made the switch earlier, but wanted to protect Szczesny after criticism for his recent poor performances.

There were serious errors at fault for costly goals against Udinese and Napoli, prompting a backlash from fans.

Szczesny improved and made a decisive last-gasp save in the 1-1 draw with Milan on Pierre Kalulu, while he was beaten against Spezia by two deflected efforts.

It seems that the pressure is sufficiently off the Poland international, so now Perin can step in and take over the gloves this weekend against Sampdoria.

That will then allow Szczesny to rest and recuperate ahead of the Champions League showdown with Chelsea next Wednesday.

3 thought on “Juventus shelve Szczesny for Perin against Samp?”
  1. I’m gonna make a bet right now that Donnarumma arrives at Juve either in Jan or next summer, possibly on loan.

Something feels like the whole thing was organised this way from the start to get him there, but without placing a burden on Juves finances.

  2. Perin is a solid keeper. It’s a shame he has spent a good portion of his career sitting on the bench.

  3. As long as Perin does not do a Woj in performing circus tricks I will be happy. Donnarumma will not arrive with his salary plus if they do not get 4th spot think he will want to play in Europa league or the conference division.
