Luis Suarez is being offered to various Serie A clubs, but nobody seems to be interested, perhaps also because the last time he almost joined Juventus, it ended in a scandal.

The former Liverpool, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid striker is currently a free agent, one who at the age of 35 still believes he has a great deal to give.

The veteran Uruguay international has been proposed to several Serie A sides over the last few days by his agent, including Atalanta, Fiorentina and of course Juventus.

It’s not entirely surprising that the Italian clubs are reticent to sign Suarez, and not just because of his age and perhaps lack of motivation.

Suarez was very close to joining Juventus in September 2020, although the deal could only go through if he managed to obtain an Italian passport.

He flew in with a private jet to take the oral exam proving some knowledge of the Italian language, visiting the international university of Perugia.

As luck would have it, the same examiners were already being wiretapped as part of an on-going investigation into their less than taxing tests for certain students.

A recording of Suarez’s test showed why, as they prompted and cajoled him along to give the correct answers, skipping over errors.

Suarez and Juventus were cleared of any wrong-doing, as this was part of a wider investigation into the university being too soft on celebrity or rich students, but it did enough to scupper the transfer and scare clubs off him for good.

  1. @Frankie.

If you want to believe that Juventus had nothing to do with a non Italian speaker absolutely acing his test, then I’m sure you also believe in Father Christmas. Juventus were clever not to have had someone directly involved with the university. They got off on a technicality.

  2. “investigation into the university being too soft on celebrity or rich students”

Should be University of Perugia scandal then…

You’d think she’d be less bitter after winning the league. Or maybe they’re just fishing for clicks.

  3. juventini delusional as usual

“We have to help our center forward. Among the various interceptions, that of the rector of the University of Perugia, Maurizio Oliviero, stood out, who allegedly acted as an intermediary with the University for foreigners of the Umbrian capital: “We must help our center forward” . And again: “You know that I have good relations with the management of Juve”, said Oliviero to his almost namesake Simone Olivieri, director of the University for Foreigners, in interceptions in which he was mentioned

  4. loool sounds like the usual scapegoating, and an investigation that came to nothing yet again the court of public `opinion` wants it to be different. Milan won the league and rightly so despite var`s insistence, which certain fans are VERY quiet about, being clearly second best and all. talking of being second best and pretending to be winners, we are owed at least one Scudetto from the courts, where is it??

  5. Will sayit again. Raise the wages for your wtiters FI, so you can attract actual good journalists and not only rejects from the business.

  6. “It’s not entirely surprising that the Italian clubs are reticent to sign Suarez”

    It is ‘hesitant’, not ‘reticent’

If they were reticent they would not be saying anything, but since they have knocked back the opportunity, they have indeed spoken.

  7. If Juve do finally get Suarez this is a genius move. He was still too young for PhD Max when he left Barca. Now that he has more experience under his belt, he meets the age limit for Obi Wan Omicron Max. Give him a 5 year deal, 10M a season.
