Juventus are confident about closing out a double deal for Chelsea duo Antonio Rudiger and Jorginho.

The Bianconeri are preparing to overhaul their squad in the upcoming summer transfer window following a lacklustre season. Seeing the uncertainty surrounding Chelsea following the sanctions laid against Roman Abramovich, the Turin side are ready to snap up any stars heading out the door in West London.

As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Rudiger has agreed to join Juventus on a free transfer in the summer, after his contract expires with Chelsea. He is expected to sign a four-year deal worth around €6.5m net per season.

The Bianconeri are also working to secure Jorginho’s signature. The Italian-Brazilian midfielder’s contract expires with the Blues in 2023 and now they need to agree a fee with Thomas Tuchel’s side. For now it seems likely that Jorginho will sign a four-year deal worth around €6.5m net per season as well.

Fabrizio Romano later reported Juventus have approached Rudiger over a move, but have not yet managed to iron out an agreement. They’re still facing competition from two unnamed clubs.

  1. “Juve have money troubles after UCL exit”
“Juve looking to sign 2 players they don’t need”

Does the left hand not know what the right hand is doing?

  2. @Chris it does seem odd that they’re being linked with so many players. They’ve had a terrible few years financially – we’re always hearing how skint they are – plus they still haven’t paid fully for the likes of Chiesa and Locatelli.

As for the two players, I do think they are needed. Having Jorginho in the anchor role will free up Locatelli to do what he does best. Chiellini and Bonucci are nearing the end and so Rudiger would be a solid replacement for one of them.

  3. I disagree with Jorginho being necessary, I think that will most likely just push Locatelli to the fringe unless they can find some harmony. Rudiger is unnecessary unless something happens with Bonucci and Chiellini. Of course it would be good to see him back in Serie A but I suspect another club will be ready to price Juve out

  4. @chris2 – locatelli is not a regista. Jorginho is… Locatelli has been at his best further forward so would be great to have them both and mckennie for energy..

“Unless something happens to chiellini and bonucci” – it saddens me but they are 37 and 35 and chronically injured.

I think both signings would be great and if we can also get a decent left back would be a pretty solid mercato

  5. Danilo-Rudiger-De ligt-Wijndal
    Locatelli-Jorginho-Gravenberch
    Zaniolo/Dembele-Vlahovic-Chiesa

If you let this team gel for a season it could be pretty decent. Cuadrado, De Sciglio, Bonucci, Mckennie, Rovella, Moratta plus maybe another winger and midfielder.

Selling Sandro, Rabiot, Arthur, Ramsey and Kean can be tough, though.

  6. I’m not sure about Jorginho but Rudiger would be a huge signing for Juve. Specially with Chiellini and Bonucci nearing the end of their playing days and de Ligt maybe on the way out?

  7. Locatelli and Arthur were terrible versus Villareal. I can see why they are doing this. Not sure it will help that much though.

  8. @Juve fan – Bonucci and Chiellini may be old and injured all the time but you can’t justify signing another defender with a top wage whilst they’re still paying 12m+ combined for Chiellini & Bonucci to warm the bench. Their financial situation simply doesn’t allow it so some changes need to be made and quickly at that.

In respect of Jorginho, I don’t think that Locatelli is proficient enough as an attacking midfielder and the squad isn’t dynamic enough to warrant needing a regista. Again perhaps if there are enough changes he would be a good fit but at the moment and under Allegri I just can’t see how it works

  9. Do they still have enough money for that ? Locatelli is good for balancing jorginho, but they still need someone to be playmaker in front, or do they still insist with use only deep lying playmaker ?

  10. @Chris2

Locatelli and Jorginho are two very different players, as Juve Fan said. They have already shown that they can co-exist and excel together in the National team.

You say, “unless something happens with Bonucci and Chiellini”, well to be fair, those two are frequently picking up injuries, so things are already happening and with their advancing years it’ll (sadly) only get worse. It’s unsettling for the team to have such an alternating back line.

  11. My sense is Jorginhi, as good as he is (or maybe was, he’s over 30) is not what Juve needs, which is dynamism.

  12. @Bruno – Bonucci and Chiellini’s ability to perform is not what I’m referencing, it’s the fact that – injuries or not – an Italian club cannot afford to have 4 star CBs and some backup ones for rotation.

I understand that Manu and Jorginho are different players, perhaps they can co-exist in the national team but a domestic scale I don’t think they can co-exist against perhaps overall lesser quality, but more compact defense-wise and tactically astute teams in Serie A.

  13. @Chris2, agree with that. Even with dybala running back and forth to get the ball, there is still quite a gap between him and vlahovic in front. Morata has speed and he is hard worker, but still quite a gap to cover

  14. For someone, who (obviously) doesn’t know what is going on at Juve Chris2 sure has a lot of opinions 😄

As for money, Juve a while ago got a (huge) cash flow from the owners of 400 mill. Euros, to keep the books in order, so it’s not really a problem.

Chiellini is as much as I like him, more or less finished. He’s just trying to hold it together, so that he can get to the World Cup with Italy (if they qualify).

As for a regista, well Allegri made it work in different forms, with Pirlo as a deep lying regista (making a UCL final) & with Pjanic in a double pivot with Khedira (making another UCL final), I think Allegri knows how to work with a regista, if that’s what he wants.

So, if Jorginho is coming, I’m sure Allegri knows how to deal with it 😉

Also I don’t think Juve is going to sign Jorginho without Allegri wanting him.
Last time a player was signed witout Allegri wanting him was Ronaldo (making the team worse season by season), and I think it’s safe to say now, that Allegri was right.

  15. But unfortunately, isn’t that 400 mill euros just to keep the balance by the book ? Not to really spend that, right ? They do need to sell first tough.

  16. good moves by juve if they are able to complete it. juve badly need a cback to partner deligt as bonucci and chiellini is getting older and the injuries pilling up. jorginho would be a good pickup because certainly arthur is not the answer as a regista. it is not locatelli natural position either.

  17. Jorginho is perfect for Locatelli! Now it would be great see them along both with Pessina.

Rudiger? Another right footed center back? Juve need left footed center backs like Bastoni, Pau Torres, Sven Botman.

Juve needs also to look for more italian promises defenders like Mattia Viti or Alessandro Carboni.

  18. Rudiger and Jorginho are major upgrades on Arthur and Rugani. Rudiger and De Ligt, with Chiellini pretty much finished and Bonucci picking up injuries, would be a very strong CB pairing – Rudiger brings vast experience, quality and a winning mentality so he will fit in well at Juve. Jorginho is what we have been missing for 3 years now and frees up Locatelli to play box-to-box. Gravenbach to replace rabbiot, Zaniolo or Raspadori to replace an always injured Dybala and any left back with two arms and two legs to replace Sandro and we’re good to go.

  19. Chris2

Apperently they can afford another CB so why not or DO you think rugani is Good enough to play with de ligt when chiellini and bonucci are missing.
