Juventus release official Chiellini injury update

Giorgio Chiellini is expected to remain out of action until March as Juventus announced their captain has sustained a low-grade calf strain.

The 37-year-old was forced off the pitch in the Old Lady’s 2-0 win over Hellas Verona on Sunday.

He underwent medical examinations at the J Medica today and Juventus have announced that exams highlighted a low-grade strain at his left calf.

“Giorgio Chiellini underwent radiological scans at J | Medical today, which revealed a low-grade lesion of the deep musculature of the left calf,” the Bianconeri statement read.

According to multiple reports in Italy, this means that Chiellini will remain out of action for at least 20 days, meaning he won’t return to action before the beginning of March.

The Juventus and Italy captain will miss the upcoming games against Sassuolo in Coppa Italia (this coming Thursday), Atalanta, Torino and Empoli in Serie A and the opening Champions League round of 16 clash against Villareal in Spain on February 22.

Chiellini could return to action for the home Serie A clash against Spezia and be available for the World Cup playoffs with Italy at the end of March.
