Giorgio Chiellini is expected to remain out of action until March as Juventus announced their captain has sustained a low-grade calf strain.

The 37-year-old was forced off the pitch in the Old Lady’s 2-0 win over Hellas Verona on Sunday.

He underwent medical examinations at the J Medica today and Juventus have announced that exams highlighted a low-grade strain at his left calf.

“Giorgio Chiellini underwent radiological scans at J | Medical today, which revealed a low-grade lesion of the deep musculature of the left calf,” the Bianconeri statement read.

According to multiple reports in Italy, this means that Chiellini will remain out of action for at least 20 days, meaning he won’t return to action before the beginning of March.

The Juventus and Italy captain will miss the upcoming games against Sassuolo in Coppa Italia (this coming Thursday), Atalanta, Torino and Empoli in Serie A and the opening Champions League round of 16 clash against Villareal in Spain on February 22.

Chiellini could return to action for the home Serie A clash against Spezia and be available for the World Cup playoffs with Italy at the end of March.

9 thought on “Juventus release official Chiellini injury update”
  1. My question is seeing chielini and bonnuci age is catching up with them and are always getting injured, on the other side you start hearing juve is contemplating selling de ligt you wonder if the management really knows what it’s doing?

  2. I actually think Juve’s strategy for replacing Chiellini (in particular) and Bonucci is more important than buying players like Vlahovic. Juve are a different team when Chiellini plays in my opinion and his absence is always missed.

  3. Unless something drastic changes from what I last heard, no way Juve have any intention to sell de ligt. They need to get salaries under control but de ligt is a major catalyst for years to come and this is Juve’s official position on de ligt. FACT. Now with Vlaho – Juve’s ambitions should be pretty clear on what they’re building and selling a critical piece in de ligt would make zero sense. We have money we’re not inter or Milan. Again just need salaries under control and you’ll see the same type of force we’ve come to expect for the last 100 years. Why would we change now ?? 🤷🏻‍♂️ Makes zero sense lol

  4. Juve might not want to sell De Ligt, but the player may choose to leave. Chelsea, etc could offer him a huge wage increase. De Ligt is probably getting a bit tired of not being close to winning the UCL- we will see this season but even with the new signings I think Juve will do well to get past the QF stage

  5. @louch i agree with you 100% all this deligt rumors are purely based on raiol’s big mouth and reputation. but he always does that. meaning anything. with pogba at man united he often shouted real madrid links or juve returns and yet he is now in his 6th season with united. it means nothing what he shouts.
as long de ligt is happy, he has sportive ambitions to achieve and getting very very well payed, i dont see him move that easily most definitely now the club is investing in the future.
of course in football you never know but i bet he stays as well

  6. @louch De Ligt only has two years remaining on his contract. If they don’t sell this summer they run the risk that he will leave for free or a nominal sum next summer.
If he wants to leave and doesn’t want to sign an extension, it’s better to sell and reinforce the team.

  7. Not good news for Juve and Italy. However, Rugani is actually playing well. We need our players to be all fit at the Play offs. I would still bring Chiellini regardless if he is fit or not. He is excellent and giving support to his team mates.

  8. I agree with Zambrotta.

And let’s be honest here, De Ligt isn’t really that great. If we got him for 30 mil then maybe. But I’m yet to see justifications for his price tag.
