According to Telegraph Sport, Juventus, Barcelona and Real Madrid are preparing to relaunch their Super League project with some key changes.

The trio are the only remaining clubs still committed to the plan, which had been announced in April 2021 and collapsed within 48 hours of that shock statement.

UEFA and FIFA have come together to block any path towards reviving the idea, with the other clubs – including Inter and Milan from Italy – backing out.

This evening, Telegraph Sport claim that Juve, Real Madrid and Barcelona are ready to announce another version of the competition, which would effectively replace the Champions League.

Among the changes made to render the plan more palatable, it would scrap the ‘closed league’ structure, which had been one of the biggest concerns behind the project.

Instead, it will work on a qualifying model based on domestic league results.

Juventus President Andrea Agnelli is expected to present the project next week, but with UEFA announcing big new funding for Champions League competitors, there doesn’t seem to be much support for it.

  1. @Mikkel – I totally agree. New stadiums and infrastructure are a priority. I think some sort of ‘super league’ is inevitable. The Telegraph and the current Brexitty UK Govt will spit feathers as they will see it as some sort of EU ‘plot’. But the big teams will eventually find a way. Or they will force UEFA’s hand to offer a more ‘lucrative’ CL. It may be ‘unfair’ but it’s the reality.
