Juventus CEO Maurizio Scanavino insists that the Old Lady would rather create the next Cristiano Ronaldo rather than have to buy him when asked about the club’s recent recruitment strategy.

The Bianconeri executive gave an in-depth interview to Tuttosport, published on Thursday.

Scanavino told the Turin-based outlet that Juventus are focused on signing young, promising and emerging footballers who have not yet realised their full potential at senior level.

While the club are looking to rejuvenate the playing squad, Scanavino remains adamant that the club has to remain competitive at the highest level.

He does not rule out the fact that Juventus could sign the world’s next super star, but that would likely be earlier in their careers, rather than mid-way through or towards the end, like when the club brought Ronaldo to the Allianz Stadium from Real Madrid back in 2018.

What Scanavino said about creating the next Ronaldo at Juventus

“If we consider Ronaldo as an example of a top player, then yes, I absolutely do not rule out that a top player could arrive at any point. Of course, we also want to be able to create them ourselves, focussing on young and talented players who have not yet exploded to their full potential,” Scanavino told Tuttosport

“But as I said, sustainability can’t impact competitiveness. Juventus has significant resources and therefore, in terms of the economic investment in the first team, we can’t rule out that a top player could arrive.

“In fact, I would say there will be one.”

Juventus have made four permanent signings so far this summer; Michele Di Gregorio from Monza, Douglas Luiz from Aston Villa, Khephren Thuram from OGC Nice and Juan Cabal from Hellas Verona

They also have an agreement in place with Atalanta for the transfer of Teun Koopmeiners, while a new defender and possibly a new set of wingers are also on the agenda before the close of the window at the end of the month.
