Adrien Rabiot was extremely fortunate to avoid a red card just moments after his error allowed Villarreal to equalise, sparking fury from Juventus fans, teammates and coach Max Allegri.

The midfielder was responsible for the goal, as he was caught ball-watching and allowed Dani Parejo to make the run behind him, volleying in the Capoue ball over the top completely undisturbed.

According to Canale 5 pitch-side reporters, Allegri had only just warned him about those runs behind him a coupe of minutes before the goal.

Teammate Matthijs de Ligt was also furious, shouting at Rabiot that he shouldn’t have allowed the run.

A few minutes after that howler, Rabiot was very lucky that VAR did not intervene to suggest upgrading his yellow card to a red, as he raked his studs down the knee of Samu Chukwueze.

Juventus fans vented their rage on social media, some even suggesting he should be sold during the match without waiting for the final whistle.

Others pointed out Juve were unlucky that Rabiot wasn’t sent off, as it might’ve improved the team’s overall performance.

  1. Nope, the fault on Chukwueze was not worthy of a red card. It was not a late contact, rather the opposite, Rabiot got sooner than Chukwueze’s knee to contact. That’s all, simply, easy-peasy. But for the goal… shame on him!

  2. Allegri is furious? It’s unbelievable that this guy has a job as a coach. My eyes hurt watching his team. It’s amazing that the club is buying all these players, only to be ruined by Allegri’s tactics.

  3. @Rob…one of the most successful coaches ever. You, on the other hand, win on PS5 or Xbox only, and rant on a website.

  4. At least Vlahovic is still good! Not really surprised to see Rabiot playing terrible, Sandro making errors and Morata missing 2 good chances. Same old story. WIll probably get past Villareal, but the QF could be a real ugly defeat

  5. @NOrata

Doesn’t change the fact that he’s a very negative coach. And being one of the most successful coaches in Serie A this decade doesn’t mean much when the opposition he was up against was pretty poor.

Look at the time they were knocked out by Bayern 4 – 2 aet years ago. That showed the two sides of Allegri perfectly – brilliant up to a point, then throws it away with negative substitutions instead of carrying on as they were.

As for Rabiot, call Newcastle – those clowns would pay 30m for him.

  6. I just don’t understand why Allegri is constantly playing Sandro and Rabiot. They both hardly ever show that they deserve to be on the pitch. Today Rabiot was clearly tired after 60 mins. But rather than bringing Artur for Rabiot to get more control over the game Allegri keeps him on and takes of Locatelli. Very frustrating to watch.
Same as Morata constantly looking to get free kicks for nothing. This is not Serie A. And if the referee didnt award them the first three times, he’s not gonna change his mind the fourth time….

  7. Hey Norata – one of the most successful coaches ever?? Where at Juve? Go try and win in another league pal. The guy has won scudetto’s with superstar-riddled teams – good luck elsewhere

  8. I don’t blame him (Rabiot), it’s Allegri I blame for keeping him and lucatelli on the pitch for that long. Allegri should be given some brain, cos his killing this team with this his lack of ambition style of play.

  9. Mourinho is very successful too do we want him as well? Allegri learnt nothing in the 2 years off.. What was the point of buying Zakaria???? Rabiot should have never started this match but most know that. Same ole Juve score early and hang on smh. Pragmatic and depressing….

  10. Rabiot is the most useless player. Can’t defend, can’t attack. And yet he starts and plays a full game.

  11. Being a juve fan has been in my family for three generations. I’m pretty sad that we have players that don’t deserve to be on the team. But allegri is a good coach he brouht the team to 2 cl finals in 3 years.

  12. PhD Max is not the main problem. The real issues are with management and the lack of any cohesive plan. Spend £80M on one striker yet do not fix the midfield. Over the summer I doubt they will address it esp if they fail to make it back to the CL. For years they have either downgraded or let the full back positions rot. If Danilo is getting praised then something is wrong as he should never wear that shirt. He was never good enough for Madrid or Man City but somehow it is slim picking these days. Awful decision making letting Spinna and Cancelo go and then blame it on funds. Yet they paid for Ronaldo and just spent big for Dusan. Vlahovic is a terrific player but not when you have no service to supply him.

  13. Juve, please lose CL as quickly as possible so we can get on with our lives, and you can get back into Serie A where you belong, thank you!

  14. Even though I do not rate Weston very highly at least he runs and is trying. Now with his season likely to be over, Allegri will definitely give more playing time to Rabiot and that does not bode well for obvious reasons. Injuries are part of the game but I cannot see any other team, maybe Milan who get more injuries. Our coach is bad, our players are average, cannot even stay fit and our hierarchy are too arrogant in their stubborn ways.

  15. Have no fear, Allegri will be going to Arrivabene tomorrow and demanding Rabiot be given a new 5 year deal worth £10 million a season for his outstanding ball watching performance. More 1-1 draws coming. Haaland was so smart not to come to Juventus as knew they would waste him in the under 23’s and that this pretend giant would never use him correctly. Juventus showing astute vision as always.

Good coach? Any coach would have taken that juve side with Pirlo, pogba, Vidal, and Marchisio to the chl finals.

  17. with Chiesa, McKennie out and Zakaria joining just recently it is understandable why Rabiot plays. If we want to sell him, we need to play him. In defence we had to put Danilo, unfortunately. Sandro disappoints again. Pellegrini is still not entirely ready for games like these, so we stick with Sandro. Vlahovic is good, but we need an upgrade in the summer

  18. scored in just 00 : 32 seconds with their great new steal away signing. and then NOTHING else.
came away with a 1-1 draw.
… and worst of all Mckennie is badly injured out for 12 weeks.
hurts the club and United States.
i blame Juve higher ups and Allegri.

  19. Got to say Allegri and his substitutes border madness! You have Locatelli our best midfielder and you have Rabiot, lucky not to be sent off, at fault for the goal and totally anonymous for the majority of the game. So what do you do sub Locatelli off😂, the guy is a 🤡.

  20. Allegri got to 2 CL finals against all odds. He was only stopped by an on form CR7 and one of the best teams ever in Barca. So, yes, very successful coach. Note that when Juve got to the finals, they did so by beating Barca 3-0 and Real over 2 legs so his teams can rise to the occasion. This year, Juve are still in construction and it’s clear that the midfield is lacking quality. Up front, Dusan will make a difference but he’s only one guy. If you don’t have players to link up midfield with attack, you can’t play the kind of football you want and that’s Allegri’s issue. It’s not tactics. You guys forget Zeman. Amazingly attacking football and a pleasure on the eye but his teams were losing 4-3/3-2 every game. They scored a lot but conceded even more. And this is why Allegri earns the big money and you can barely pay your bills.
