Injuries have reduced France’s midfield capabilities ahead of the World Cup in Qatar, making Adrien Rabiot one of the most experienced options still available.

The 27-year-old midfielder seemed close to leaving Juventus in the summer transfer window as Manchester United made an approach, but he couldn’t agree personal terms with the club, deciding to stay in Turin instead. Rabiot has featured consistently under Massimiliano Allegri this season but with less than a year left on his contract, his future is still shrouded in doubt.

As highlighted by L’Equipe, the French national team will have to do without the injured Paul Pogba or N’Golo Kante for the upcoming World Cup, limiting Didier Deschamps’ options in the midfield. Rabiot and Aurélien Tchouaméni now seem set to play important roles for Les Bleus, having featured consistently recently.

Other options for Deschamps and France in midfield include Mattéo Guendouzi, Boubacar Kamara, Eduardo Camavinga and former Roma man Jordan Veretout.
