Juventus have been encouraged enough by signals from Milan to try and lure midfield playmaker Andrea Pirlo away from San Siro.

Earlier this month, Juventus general manager Beppe Marotta admitted that Pirlo figures in his summer transfer strategy.

Efforts to renew his contract at Milan have gone slowly and recent comments made by Silvio Berlusconi suggest Pirlo's time at the club is nearing an end.

Il Corriere dello Sport understands that Juventus are now prepared to make a direct approach to Pirlo's agent Tullio Tinti.

Il Corriere dello Sport understands that Juventus are now prepared to make a direct approach to Pirlo's agent Tullio Tinti.

Marotta has a good relationship with Tinti. The pair worked together at Sampdoria on Giampaolo Pazzini's transfer and more recently on the Luca Toni and Alessandro Matri deals.

Despite his age and high salary, Pirlo fits Juventus' criteria in that he is Italian and could give the team an immediate jump in class at the heart of the midfield.

Juventus feel that they have an advantage on other interested parties in their location, as Turin isn't far from Milan or Brescia, his hometown, and many of his Italy international teammates play for the club.

The problem regards his contract, which is worth €5m a season.

If Juventus can't get the 31-year-old to accept a cut, they will move for Fiorentina midfielder Riccardo Montolivo instead.
